Homework is important. It consolidates learning and helps to create good study habits.
Students may be asked to read, preparation, revise or complete tasks. As a broad guide Year 7 students can expect four hours a week, rising to ten hours a week by Year 11.
How can parents help?
Play your part by providing an appropriate place for homework to be completed and establish a daily routine for when it is to be done. Check your child’s planner for homework set and sign the planner weekly, entering a comment if you wish.
Take a positive interest in homework and class work and encourage your child to read to help improve literacy and spelling, to research for additional information on current topics or to work on any on-going pieces of coursework.
Sign up for Show My Homework
Show My Homework was launched at Stantonbury in September 2017 to support parents and help students in accessing and completing homework.
Since its inception 77% of students have used the site with most gaining access via the App – available as a free download from Google Play or the App Store.
Once logged in, students receive regular push notifications about approaching assignments and access to online tasks, such as quizzes and spelling tests.
Parent and carer engagement with the site is above average too. Access to the open calendar is through the Show My Homework website, or like the students many parents find the App the best way to keep tabs on what homework their child is being set, and when it’s due. Notifications are sent automatically direct to a mobile phone -so there are no excuses!
If you haven’t already, it’s really simple to set up an account. The Head of Year has access to login information and can reprint the welcome letter. Find out more here
