Fundraising Update – Well done to our Students
On Tuesday 20 March, two students, James Gardner, and, Evan Mansell, performed in the MK Music service concert and afterwards spoke to the whole audience about their teacher, Mr Stewart, who is running the London Marathon on 22 April, 2018, because of his cousin who has MND.
At the end of the performance they held a bucket collection at the door and raised £165 which will help towards the total which will go to the MND Association.
Mr Stewart said: “What an amazing achievement, and I am very proud of them both.”
Open Letter from Mr Stewart
Please help me raise money for Motor Neuron Disease, MND Association, by sponsoring me in the London Marathon, on 22 April ,2018
I decided to run the marathon to raise money after my cousin Doddie Weir, was diagnosed in September of 2016.
Doddie played International rugby union for Scotland in the 1990’s and was lucky enough to join the British and Irish Lions on the 1997 tour to South Africa.
Every member of our family, including my sister, who has never run in her life and who has entered the London half marathon, are doing as much as we can to raise money for the MND Association. We all want to help this worthy cause which is trying to find a cure for this horrific disease.
MND – also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease – is progressive. It occurs when specialised nerve cells called motor neurons break down. These nerve cells usually transmit messages from the brain and spinal cord to tell muscles in the body what to do.
In MND, the messages from these nerves gradually stop reaching the muscles, causing them to weaken and waste away leading to paralysis and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.
There is currently no cure and while there are exceptions – including the physicist Stephen Hawking – about half of sufferers die within three years of developing symptoms.
I aim to try and raise £5000 for the ‘MND Association’ so any donation you can give I will be truly grateful.
