Stantonbury Student is English Champion in Kick Boxing

"I have been training as a kick boxer since January 2012.  I train two to three hours a day, five days a week.  This year I have been to seven different shows and ten inter clubs and have also competed in an exhibition fight with a 28year old that was 8kg heavier than me, and won. The competitions involve me travelling up and down the country and to date I have won ten medals, eleven trophies and on Saturday the 15^th December, at our own show in Milton Keynes, I won my first belt which is the ISKA English Champion title.

I am currently entered in to the Junior Super League and I am in third place with two more events to go.  At the end of the season if I am in 1^st or 2^nd place I will be able to represent England and compete in Russia.  On March 9^th 2013 I’m hoping to fight for the ISKA European title belt.

My goal is to be the best in Britain in my weight category and the three top girls in my category are Amber and Alaya Kitchen and Sammy Luxton.  By the end of next year I am hoping to be at the top in my weight category.

Olympic gold medallist, Greg Rutherford, offered some tips to young people inspired by his success during a celebratory event at the community sport club where his journey to London 2012 began.

Joining Sport England at Marshall Milton Keynes Athletics Club Stantonbury, Greg witnessed first-hand the continued good work of the club which nurtured his talent and set him on his road to winning gold at this year’s Olympic Games. He also unveiled a plaque celebrating his Olympic success and links to the club.

Greg said: “It is fantastic to be back at Marshall Milton Keynes Athletics Club where it all began. Winning gold at London 2012 was an unbelievable experience however it wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t received the support and encouragement from this club. It is important that clubs like this receive all the help they need to get more people into and enjoying sport.”

Sport England has invited all Olympic and Paralympic medal winners to nominate the community club where they discovered their love of sport. All of the clubs will be offered bespoke advice from Sport England about how the grassroots funding body can support their work.

On Tuesday 4^th December PE staff and students attended the MK Sports Awards held at Shenley Leisure Centre.  Having been National Badminton champions and runners up for the last two years running in two age groups the secondary schools partnership nominated Stantonbury Campus in the secondary school of the year category.

Along with our badminton success, Stantonbury are renowned in the local area of Milton Keynes as well as within Buckinghamshire in being hard to compete against.  The school have won numerous district competitions last year including football, dodgeball, rounders, athletics, basketball, competed in national competitions and excelled in several Buckinghamshire football county cups being winners and runners up.

The school was awarded secondary school of the year and staff and students were honored to receive the award by Olympic Gold Medallist Greg Rutherford.

Many thanks to all who supported the Dansteed Prom Committee’s cake sale last term.

They raised £150 of which they have donated £75 to Meningitis Research.

The Anti Bullying Campaign instigated by The Diana Trust is up and running at Stantonbury Campus. Kristen Bayley of Grafton Hall is one of the enthusiastic Anti Bullying Ambassadors committed to tackling the issue of bullying in school.

The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors went on a training day in October run by The Diana Trust and since then have recruited 5 ‘Smile Ambassadors’. It is hoped that they too in time will have the training and will become Anti- Bullying Ambassadors. The Ambassadors presented a proposal to the Senior Leadership Team at the school in which they requested a budget of £500 to purchase further badges, t-shirts and further training in school/advertising. The group meet weekly and are just beginning to structure their meetings in a more formal way with a chair and secretary to take minutes. The minutes are put on their Facebook page as are the dates of any forthcoming meetings or events.

Kristen and others presented to Grafton Year 10 during Anti-bullying week showing the video that they created (for the aforementioned SLT meeting) and also another video on the seriousness of bullying. They received feedback suggesting the message had hit home with a number of students and the atmosphere in the room was very still, sombre and reflective.

Kristen says the aim is to continue recruiting Smile Ambassadors for each year group and to structure and plan the content of an assembly to deliver to all year groups. The commitment and enthusiasm of this group is very impressive and they seem very positive and about the drive of the project by how much it can achieve.
