MK Sports Awards
On Tuesday 4th December PE staff and students attended the MK Sports Awards held at Shenley Leisure Centre. Having been National Badminton champions and runners up for the last two years running in two age groups the secondary schools partnership nominated Stantonbury Campus in the secondary school of the year category.
Along with our badminton success, Stantonbury are renowned in the local area of Milton Keynes as well as within Buckinghamshire in being hard to compete against. The school have won numerous district competitions last year including football, dodgeball, rounders, athletics, basketball, competed in national competitions and excelled in several Buckinghamshire football county cups being winners and runners up.
The school was awarded secondary school of the year and staff and students were honored to receive the award by Olympic Gold Medallist Greg Rutherford.
Congratulations to all our athletes.

Anti-Bullying Campaign
The Anti Bullying Campaign instigated by The Diana Trust is up and running at Stantonbury Campus. Kristen Bayley of Grafton Hall is one of the enthusiastic Anti Bullying Ambassadors committed to tackling the issue of bullying in school.
The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors went on a training day in October run by The Diana Trust and since then have recruited 5 ‘Smile Ambassadors’. It is hoped that they too in time will have the training and will become Anti- Bullying Ambassadors. The Ambassadors presented a proposal to the Senior Leadership Team at the school in which they requested a budget of £500 to purchase further badges, t-shirts and further training in school/advertising. The group meet weekly and are just beginning to structure their meetings in a more formal way with a chair and secretary to take minutes. The minutes are put on their Facebook page as are the dates of any forthcoming meetings or events.
Kristen and others presented to Grafton Year 10 during Anti-bullying week showing the video that they created (for the aforementioned SLT meeting) and also another video on the seriousness of bullying. They received feedback suggesting the message had hit home with a number of students and the atmosphere in the room was very still, sombre and reflective.
Kristen says the aim is to continue recruiting Smile Ambassadors for each year group and to structure and plan the content of an assembly to deliver to all year groups. The commitment and enthusiasm of this group is very impressive and they seem very positive and about the drive of the project by how much it can achieve.
Keep up the great work guys!
MK Youth Cabinet
There are Youth Cabinet Elections happening at Stantonbury and we have several students standing for election. Speak to Behavioral Support Managers in each Hall if you would like more information or see the website MKYOUTHCABINET
Chloe McCreadie - Member of the Youth Cabinet 11GEH
"Finding the Youth Cabinet has transformed my life for the greater good. I felt I needed to contribute to the youth community, so I decided to join the Youth Cabinet. I found them via the internet and their contact details were on their official website. I was able to speak directly to the receptionist who was helpful and patient as I made my inquiries.
I was nervous going to my first meeting but during the first few meetings I became associated with the team and I settled in straight away.
The meetings consist of three main campaigns- Careers, Buses and Relationships and Sex Education. We work on making improvements in these three areas of life for young people. We work in schools, work and society as a whole and it shows that young people have an important role to play too.
As well as brainstorming ideas such as the appropriate amount to charge on buses we might also discuss how we can convince schools to teach relationship and sex education.
We also collaborate with organisations that could help benefit our campaigns such as Brook, Connections and Arriva.
We have also attended the Youth Awards and days out to London including a visit to the Houses of Parliament.
It is an amazing experience and group to be involved in."
Christmas Hampers
During the last few weeks of 2012 tutor groups across the Campus donated a variety of items such as soup, tinned fruits, biscuits, puddings, cereals and gifts to contribute to Christmas hampers for the elderly in our community.
Over 100 hampers were created, decorated and delivered by students in the last week term. The Campus was really enthusiastic in the build up to Christmas and being a part of the Hamper project. Some tutor groups wrote letters and cards to those receiving hampers and to spread the spirit of Christmas.
Well done!
Speed Languages Event

On the morning of Wednesday 21st November, selected year 9 students had the opportunity to meet representatives and employees from VWFS as part of a “speed languages” investigation. Students were divided into groups and given just five minutes with each guest to find out what languages they speak, and most importantly use in their job.
The event was designed to raise the importance of being able to speak a language in the global world. The guests worked in various different sections of the business from HR through to the Managing Director, Graham Wheeler.
The students really enjoyed the event, and learned a great deal about how important learning a language could be in their own futures.
“Thank you VWFS for using your time to teach us how languages can affect your life and open up so many doors”
“We found it very interesting and it has helped us understand and make decisions about using languages in our future”
“From our time with you, we have reconsidered taking languages further”
Students have been giving presentations to their peers about their experience and are really looking forward to visiting VWFS this year.
Year 11 Exams
Year 11 have important final GCSE exams in English, Maths and Science this January.
Students need to use the feedback from the recent mock examinations and the advice given by their teachers to prepare themselves.
It is particularly important to work through past papers to practice timing answers and applying knowledge.
The Stantonbury Revision site www.stantonbury.org.uk/moodle/ also has many useful resources, timetables and links that have been prepared by Stantonbury teachers for the specific courses that students are taking.
Our year 11 students seem focused and responsible and we know that if they are prepared to put in the work they can achieve excellent results.
