Changing Levels

It is often difficult to be certain which is the most appropriate level until you have started a course. We operate a policy of moving students to a more appropriate level where the student considers this to be in their best interest.

Beginner You should be a complete beginner with no knowledge at all, except may be how to say 'hello' and 'goodbye'. You will learn some of the basic survival skills needed when you visit another country, for example, how to say who you are and order food and drink. These courses will equip you to cope in a variety of situations, whether it be for holidays, work, or visiting friends and family.
Improvers These courses are a follow-on to the Beginners' classes. They are suitable for those who have a few words in the language and will involve revision of some of the topics covered in Beginners. Students will also learn additional vocabulary and will be introduced to basic grammar.
Intermediate Students will normally be expected to have followed the Improvers course or have studied the language for at least a year. At this level students learn to communicate more effectively using grammatical structures covered in Improvers, as well as improving their listening and speaking skills. A more extensive study of grammar will be undertaken through reading, speaking, listening and writing.
Conversation Students enrolling on these courses should be confident at Intermediate level and be familiar with grammar. Conversation in the foreign language will be through discussions using newspaper articles, short pieces of narrative and topics of general interest.
